A uniform flexible mat of organic fibers saturated with asphalt. Intermittent line markings are placed on the top surface at (2”, 8.5”, 11.25”, and 17”) in from each side of the mat.

Application
Organic asphalt saturated felts are designed for use in residential and commercial roof construction as underlayment for shingles, tiles, slate, and wood shake.

Other Advantages:

 Provide secondary water protection to the deck
 Protect the deck prior to applying the shingles
 Temporary dry-in
 Helps in fire rating
 Minimizes picture framing in roof deck
 Protects shingles from resins in wood board sheathing

Note:

 The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends always using underlayments.
 Not using an underlayment voids the shingle manufacturer’s warranty.
